We’re excited to announce that we are again offering FREE dog training every Wednesday in our Training Yard. Shayne Woods, founder of “Star Maker Dog Training” will be the expert leading these classes. She is very talented and we are excited to have her as part of our team. Here is a bit about Shayne:

Q: How did you become interested in dog training?
A: I think I came out of the womb saying “dog.” I’ve loved animals since as far back as I can remember. As a kid I wanted nothing more than a dog to call my own. When I was around 7, my parents took me to Marine World in Vallejo and I got to watch the Orca and Dolphin shows. This began my fascination with animal training, and with the amazing things that could be achieved with a bond of respect, trust and love between animal and trainer.

Q: How long have you been a dog trainer?
A: I started training my first dog as a child, almost 22 years ago, and have been working with and training dogs in some capacity since then. I started training dogs as my career in 2008 and I founded Star Maker Dog Training in 2010.

Q: What is your favorite/most rewarding part of your job?
A: The obvious answer is getting to work with dogs! I must say though, it is incredibly rewarding when I have a client who tells me that my training kept their dog in the home when they were on the verge of rehoming, due to the dog being unmanageable. I recently had 2 clients who had puppies entering adolescence and they were becoming impossible for them to handle. Both were ready to give up and rehome them. After going through my board and train program, they are both staying in their homes and have made a complete turnaround.

Q: What excites you most about working with the CCSPCA?
A: The opportunity to give back by using my gifts and abilities to help others who need them. Being able to network with other dog centric folks.

You do not need to sign-up for class beforehand, just be sure to bring your own training collar and leash. Dogs must be at least four months old and current on vaccines. Please, no aggressive dogs. Shayne is willing to work with your aggressive dog privately, so feel free to come observe class without your dog. If you have any questions, please call (559) 233-0115.
