Abandoned Animals Have Decreased – But There’s Still More That Needs to be Done!

Abandoned Animals Have Decreased - But There’s Still More That Needs to be Done!

Though we have an open admittance policy, animals are often abandoned at our facility. The specific reasons can vary and are always unknown, but can sometimes be because of financial instability, personal embarrassment, or the lack of proper identification – the list goes on and on. Regardless of the circumstance, we do our best to work with everyone on a case-by-case basis, as we never want to turn any animal away. Unfortunately, leaving these dogs, cats, or young litters is seen as the “easy” method for people – they speed off in their vehicles and are never seen again.

While the number of abandoned animals last year was significantly lower than prior fiscal years, 172 animals is still quite high. It is our hope that someday that number will read zero but know that is somewhat unrealistic. Change is needed, and change starts with YOU. Use your voice to speak for those who don’t have a voice. Be a responsible pet owner. Spay or neuter your animals to help prevent animal overpopulation.
