Pet Facilitated Therapy is a visitation program designed to provide social, mental and physical stimulation to people who are resident patients in long-term care facilities. This program lets people in difficult circumstances enjoy the healing presence of animals in a safe and theraputic setting.
So often tears of joy come to the seniors who are not able to own pets when our volunteers come around. The wonderful sight of a playful puppy, a lick on the hand that says "I care about you," or the soft purring of a fluffy kitten can once again brighten their lives with the unconditional love of an animal.
Pet Facilitated Therapy enhances and promotes healing. It encourages interaction and promotes communication. Animals don't care about color, creed, gender, age, politics, nationality or social/economic status, and they do bridge the gap between generations. Animals have a boundless capacity for acceptance, adoration, attention, forgiveness and unconditional love. This makes them the perfect choice for this type of therapy.
