PREVENT UNWANTED EASTER PETS

The Central California SPCA would like to remind you that too often fluffy bunnies, fuzzy chicks and ducklings are given as Easter pets with no thought for the responsibility and caring needed for these small animals.

  • They require a special diet and carefully controlled temperatures.
  • They require special housing, and careful, extraordinary handling.
  • They are frail and can easily be injured or killed.
  • They can carry disease! Salmonella is a real danger to your child.
  • They grow up! When they are no longer adorable babies - you will face the painful decision of what to do with them.

Please do not contribute to this problem. Instead buy a cuddly stuffed toy animal for your special child this Easter - much suffering and cruelty will be prevented. That is what the CC/SPCA is all about:  preventing cruelty to animals.

If you receive an unwelcome Easter pet, never release it into the wild to survive on its own. It will probably not survive!

The CC/SPCA reminds you that you can bring unwanted animals to the SPCA where they are cared for and homes are sought for them. For further information on the shelter or how to care for your Easter pet, call the Education Department at 233-0115.
